What a start to 2016.  We have decided to make this year the year of The Hike!  We have accepted the WV State Park Chief's Challenge and will be logging 100 miles within the State Park system. Here are pics from the New Year's weekend.  We started with Bluestone State Park on January 1. The hike took about an hour forty-five and covered 1.1 miles.  The naturalist talked about the local tree species which is why it took so long.  We then moseyed over to Pipestem State Park had lunch and then took the mother of all hikes that lasted two hours and 3.2 miles.  I was not expecting the difficulty of this hike (in which there was no talking by the naturalist, at least I assume there was not...she was about a mile ahead of us the whole time) but we managed to make it through.  I, of course, had more difficulty than the Mr. The last of the hikes on January 3 was at Camp Creek, the park closest to our home.  A nice meander along a small trail.  So small we hopped onto the road and kept walking up to the falls to make it a 2.25 mile hike

I hope by the end of this year that no hike will get the better of me.  I want this experience to make me more fit and ready to take on any hike there is.  Bring it WV Park System!!

So, over 7 miles for the first weekend.  If the weather holds we will make our first ten this month.  Woot!!

just kidding.  That is a walkway at Camp Creek.  So next entry will be when the weather allows it to happen but rest assured, it will happen.  993 ish miles to go and 362 days to accomplish them.  And hopefully I will get better at this blogging thing also.  Happy trails peeps!!
